Not a bad idea to take a breather. (not referring to the infamous commentor 'Breather'.) I was beginning to feel behind the game here , believe i missed 4 films out of the 12 so good chance to catch up and maybe even comment.
Pleased that you will still list the Just Watched. I get a kick out of your brief synopsis(s).

If we didn't keep talking here, I'm not sure what I'd do with myself for the month or so in the interim. A day without Lee + new posts on Films Off the Beaten Path is like a day times the square root of negative one divided by a zero in a bad mood. We'd all get sucked into a Klein bottle shaped time-space continuum and who knows where we'd end up?
Let's all pray for back in the same place (and rightside out for that matter) and no doubt hopefully on September 6 with Lee refreshed from summer vacation, your wits honed, and your memory of This Is England no less crystalline for the anticipation. In the meanwhile, am looking forward to can.do!'s catch up posts and will try to follow the example myself.

Just to let everyone know, if you haven't watched this movie yet it is FANTASTIC. One of the best I have seen recently.

I'm just going to write a few words about THIS IS ENGLAND and save the rest for september. I loved every minute of it. LEM? The young actors were shockingly believable. It almost felt like a documentary.

ps Lee, I have missed seeing a new slide show every few weeks. Are you going to start up on that again I hope? ANd I was very sorry to hear about Mr. PinkY. He was a lovely fish. Isn't it wonderful that you have so many great films to remember him by.
Finetune and I are apparently on the same wavelength. I was just noticing that here hasn't been a new set of your photographs in a while Lee. But I do understand that the summer can be a very busy time and I admit to being relieved that there is a hiatus on the films. As much as I would love to watch there hasn't seemed to be a moment free this last month or two. Having the kids home does make a difference!
Believe it or not I just watched Kontroll. Do you think I have a little catching up to do? Let's see how many of them I can watch during the six week 'vacation'. I can see why the gals on the site have suggested inviting Bulcsu. What a weird and wonderful film. I really enjoyed reading all the comments as well. I believe it was all in his mind, he was not the killer. But I can see why there would be many interpretations and I'm sure this is what the director wanted. FEED sounds like quite an experience, I think I'll try that next......

a) Hello, timhoyt! Like, okay, so if I understand Klein bottles right, the out ...is ...the in...[?]. So I think if you're sucked in, you're also blown out. Too. And/or,
b) Easy, you just unzip it in two, and then you get two Mobius strips. At which point, see breather.
c) This topology will come in useful if Lee brings Feed to the picnic, because if I eat then I'm going to hurl but hey no worries because it'll all stay on the inside.

I just checked in to see what film to watch for the weekend and found this CRAZY conversation going on. I think the high high heat index this summer is having an effect on all of us. And I say "Two Thumbs Up" for this conversation. W.O.T.B.P. and W.W.W..and most certainly N.W.I.E.!!!

I think that adds up to 200%, but it also feels like it approximates infinity too, so I can't tell if there's an accounting error in there somewhere or if I should convert now.

Michael! How surprised I am to find you alive and well enough to write. Perhaps you have escaped from the hellish prison we last found you shrinking away in and are back to your old tricks in some other place. If your term of prison has taught you a lesson and you have decided to make a new life that does not include 'FEEDING' folks in any over the top manner, I too would love to make your aquaintance at the picnic. I suggest you bring something like a fresh vegetable plate with a low fat dip to ease all of our concerns about your intentions.
We just finished 'catching up'. We went through every one of the Lee Just Watched lists and our Netflix Queue is about to explode.
"This is England" is a great pick, we saw it at the theatre, WWW.

hello Lee Lee David David and All: I look forward to the Fall, so I can hopefully "catch-up" on all the films being commented on! My "old" suggestion still holds: I would like for the films to be monthly and not every two weeks...Just not possible for me...However, if "ALL" like the 2-week pace, then I will concede my point, and probably just comment on every other film...So, happy summer to all, and the one film I do hope to still watch and comment on is the documentary on the guy that sailed around the world - it looks good, and I will see that one in "retro"...P.S. - here's a "non-films off the beaten path" question/comment: how 'about if people share their favorite "summertime" movie?! My favorite was Iron Man, and my favorite DVD view was "In Bruges"...See ya'll soon - Marc
In reference to Marc's opinion on the monthly vs bi-weekly concept, I suggest that anyone who can only find the time to watch one movie per month simply only comment on one per month. Why reduce the amount of films when many of the bloggers are enjoying it? I find that even when I don't have time to get to the film before the posting date, I still like to read the comments, see what Lee's watched etc.
I agree MArc, "IRON MAN" was one of the best of the summertime fare.....BTIE! I loved Jeff Bridges as Obidiah. Haven't seen "IN BRUGES" yet but it's on the list. How about the latest Batman. Anyone?
We were psyched to see Christian Bale's follow up to his role in 'Batman Begins' (05) and the 'Dark Knight' delivered to the MAX (loved the IMAX footage....) Of course it was tough watching Keith Ledger's portrayal of the Joker for obvious reasons. Between this and 'Iron Man', well, very different films but if we had to give one the top summer slot it would go to Batman.

Speaking of picnics/bbqs, how about we all set up a virtual picnic via web-based chat? I did a cursory search, and it looks like there's a way to set up chat rooms through GeoCities that are very user-friendly and don't require people to even set up accounts. Maybe we could set up a time, buffernutter and nevertoosoon can wear their virtual pink flamingo tutus, I can finally shake breather's virtual hand, and who knows, maybe Michael from _Feed_ will sign on.
What do you think, Lee? Any particular time/date better or worse for everyone (I personally can't make this coming weekend, 8/23-24, but I can probably make any other time)? Anyone know of a more user-friendly web-based chat setup than GeoCities? Otherwise, I'll look into setting it up and posting the url, time and date here.

We are so relieved to hear how you felt about "There will be Blood'. David and I watched it this week and were stunned at just how bad it was. What is the deal with all the Oscars and critical acclaim? The editing was horrendous, the music grating and in your face, the plot unfocussed and erratic, my goodness we could not find one redeeming feature. The only thing we saw was that it was a Daniel Day Lewis "vehicle" that backfired terribly. GMAB!!!!!!!!!
As to Cherry's exta cool idea of a virtual picnic, well David and i are in...anyone else?
I'd suggest waiting till late september when all the summer holiday stuff is wrapped up, everyone is back at school etc....

Kate and Jim, You took the words right out of my mouth. "There will be Blood" was so very very not good. SVVNG? I did like the Dark Knight and thumbs up on Iron Man. 'In Bruges' OKBNG. Staying on theme, anyone see Get Smart, X-Files,The Mummy, Indiana Jones or Speed Racer?
I'm using this time to return to the classic movies of my youth. Some of them have not held up well. The disaster films like "Earthquake and "Towering Inferno" are especially hard to watch today.
Watching "Airport" gave me a new appreciation for the "Airplane" movies, reminding me that you must know the original to appreciate the satire. I haven't gotten to "The Exorcist" yet, and I'm consulting with my therapist as to whether or not it is safe to watch all five (or six?) "Planet of the Apes" movies in a single sitting.
"The Taking of Pelham 123" held up well; I think it's one of the under-appreciated action films of that era. For those who don't remember, this film is about the hijacking of a NYC subway train. Maybe Bulscu (from "Kontroll") is one of the little kids trapped on the train.
David, I would venture to guess that watching the entire Planet of the Apes saga in one sitting would be highly therapeutic. Go for it.
Hey everyone, i just got a tip from someone who's got a great eye for a good film..."Frozen River". Not out on DVD yet but you might catch it in the art house theatres...
We saw 'Frozen River' when it opened in Hartford and it is clear why it won at Sundance. Writer/director Courtney Hunt apparently started this with a short film and expanded it. If any one has seen the short film and or knows where we might access it please write and let us know! Thanks.
Believe it or not I liked 'There Will Be Blood." While I agreee that it was flawed in many ways, I found the story of the early days of oil exploration to be interesting enough to keep my attention. Not an Oscar winner by any means but I would certainly give it an OKBNG.
I can't believe that the vacation is over. The only good thing about it is that I can finally comment on 'This Is England'.I've been waiting for two months!!!Tick Tock.
